Town Planning Apprenticeship (April 2025)

We are recruiting for the role of Town Planning Apprentice to join our team based in Central London (Victoria).

We are looking for a candidate who is hard working and enthusiastic, with good writing and communication skills and an eagerness to learn. The applicant will be working on a range of predominantly residential and commercial projects throughout London.

The Apprenticeship is provided in partnership with the University of Westminster, whereby the candidate would work towards a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning over three years. The course would be fully funded by the Government and by City Planning. It would involve 4 days per week working for City Planning and 1 day per week studying at University of Westminster (Marylebone campus) for two years, followed by another year working for City Planning full-time. The course is fully accredited with the RTPI.

Entry requirements:

Candidates must have a right to work and study in England and have been ordinarily resident in the UK or EEA for three years before the apprenticeship start date.

Applicants must also meet the academic entry requirements of the course, as follows:

·        Level 3 qualifications e.g. A Levels or a Level 3 apprenticeship in a planning related discipline

·        A minimum of a lower second-class honours degree (2:2). Applicants without the standard entry requirements will be considered if they have membership of an appropriate professional body

·        One academic reference

·        Competency at a Level 2 standard in English and maths. This will be assessed during the application process, as part of the initial assessment stage.

Your Role:

The role at City Planning will include tasks such as:

• Reviewing local and national planning policy and legislative changes

• Undertaking Planning Appraisals and preparing Letters of Advice to clients

• Writing Planning Letters and Statements to accompany applications

• Preparing and submitting planning applications

• Attending site visits and meetings

• Monitoring planning applications

• Telephone calls to Council officers, clients and sub-consultants

Your Skills:

Successful candidates must be computer literate and able to use the following software packages:

• Proficient in Windows, Word and Excel

• Ability to use InDesign (for formatting reports and images) would also be of benefit
